6/15/17 California, Lassen NP, Lake Tahoe
We had the craziest drive this morning through Northern California to get to Lassen National Park. It was a never ending, windy road along the sides of the mountains. It has some amazing views.
Then we went through and area that felt like an African safari.
But Maya was not a fan of the roads. She was slipping and sliding all over the place.
Went to he southern end of Lassen Volcano NP. Usually it is open this time of year but they got dumped on this year so the main road through isn't open. The only thing we could see was a couple of hot springs. I'm not a fan of the sulfur smell, in fact I skipped that section of Yellowstone on purpose. After we got the map we realized the northern end looks nicer, but that's what happens when you never have service to do your research.
Drove to Lake Tahoe. Originally we were thinking about snowboarding here but it's only open weekends now and looks like a lot is melted. We will hopefully hit Mammoth for boarding.
The stream going through town had the prettiest, clear water with a nice bike trail beside it.
Ok I know we look redneck in our truck camper but we aren't THIS redneck:
And yes that's a stick as his door handle.
We drove around the lake and drove through some awesome tunnels
Then hiked down on the Nevada side to Bonsai Rock. The rock on the left has a little Bonsai tree growing out of it. The lake is stunning. It's perfectly clear but cold. We had fun climbing along the rocks and steep bank and avoiding lizards.
Maya had a blast swimming in the prettiest water she's seen.
These are my better pics I got with my phone of Bonsai tree. Can't wait to see my real camera pics.
It started to get late so we drove into Toiyabe-National Forest in Nevada to crash for the night. Not a pretty campspot, didn't even get a pic, but secluded and free and fine by me.
Bahaha still don't like the sulfur eh? Were you holding your nose and gagging like last time? 😄 The water looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI was mature about it but no I can't say I enjoyed it and I was a little glad when Kyle hadn't wanted to go to that area of Yellowstone 😂
