6/26/17 Big Bend National Park
Got to explore the great Big Bend National Park today! Left Maya, the camper, and the AC at the RV park and went to explore Santa Elena Cavern for the morning. It was about 1.5 mile of climbing around on the ridge of the canyon.
So the river is the rio grande, and on the right is America, on the left was Mexico. We were standing in the dried up part of the river, so I'm not sure what country we were in.
Kyle got a kick out of someone who climbed over the river to Mexico to write America in their soil.
We came back and had lunch at the camper. Then we drove into a different area of the park to do a 5 Mile hike called lost mine trail to get to the 2nd highest peak. We wanted to do the highest peak but it was a 9 mile hike and it was mid afternoon till we got started. But we were not disappointed by our hike. It was a really nice hike and view.
The pic below was driving in. I'm not completely sure which peak we were on top of but it's one of them.
We ended up walking through some trees towards the top then popped out on top of the peak.
We really love Texas so far and this park. It's hot but it's very remote so we hardly pass anyone in the park. It would be a great place to come for an escape from winter. Sounds like it's more popular in the winter, but it's still very remote so even then I don't think it gets crowded.
Tonight we are staying at the same rv park. We had chicken parmigiana tonight made with chicken nuggets 😊
Hoping it's a cloudless sky tonight so we can star gaze. Apparently western Texas is one of the best places to star gaze.
The mountains look amazing!! Have to add that to my future destination list too! Glad you guys are scoping out all these cool places for us!! 😄
